Magnesium AM50 Alloy scrap
Yes of course we also process magnesium AM50 Alloy scrap. We process all grades of magnesium; which is quite a complicated process. We buy magnesium AM50 Alloy scrap from all over the world, as we do with all other types of magnesium. In view of recent developments, this is not an unnecessary luxury.
Europe imports half of all of the magnesium produced
In the interim, magnesium has been added to the EU list of critical raw materials, which is quite a disturbing development. Incidentally, the EU imports about half of the world’s produced magnesium mostly originating from China which can be subject to trade restrictions. Of course, recycling is already a good thing for the environment, for which we are fortunately showing increasing concern. By recycling, we make sure that natural resource reserves don’t always need to be tapped into, and that the scrap heap is not growing either. These are all positive developments.
The car industry keeps discovering more about magnesium
The recycling process of magnesium AM50 Alloy scrap is not simple because it includes quite a few impurities. These are non-metallic and oxide particles in particular. However, the use of emulsifying salts removes these impurities to produce pure magnesium applicable in compounds of steel, iron and ferro alloys. Apart from magnesium AM50 Alloy scrap, we also buy considerable amounts of magnesium waste from the automotive industry where magnesium is also increasingly being used. Magnesium makes lighter cars and therefore also more economical cars. Due to the fact that there is still a considerable lack of knowledge about magnesium, carbon and aluminium tend to still be used. Moreover, magnesium is not always easy to modify. In the future however, the use of magnesium as a resource will continue to increase here. Besides, magnesium also protects against corrosion.
Recycle everything with a power plug
The demand for magnesium has also grown because of the fact that we are making less use of our electrical equipment. We increasingly want to upgrade to new equipment sooner and the manufacture of this new equipment requires magnesium time and time again. Everything that has a power cord should therefore be recycled to minimize growth and to better manage the scrap heap as well.
One third of magnesium ends up being scrap
One third of used magnesium ends up as scrap, which we buy. The actual grade of this scrap is not that important to us; we can handle all of it, whether it is magnesium as cast scrap, magnesium castings walnut, magnesium skim blocks, or magnesium AM50 Alloy scrap. Magnesium is the eighth element in quantity on Earth and can only be partially replaced. Mankind should be more aware of this fact. The fact that it is already on the EU’s critical list should be noteworthy enough. We do everything we can to recycle as much magnesium as possible by buying, recycling and processing it. Because we are aware of the above situation and because magnesium holds no secrets for us.
