Magnesium Skim Blocks

Magnesium skim blocks? We buy these from all over the world, just like we do with other magnesium waste. We recycle and process them, after removing any impurities first. Recycling is beneficial from several viewpoints; in the case of magnesium this is certainly the case.

On the EU list of critical materials

No, things are not going well for magnesium. In other words: demand is growing and reportedly, supplies are dwindling. Even more reason for letting us buy and process your magnesium skim blocks as we like to do with other types of magnesium. Magnesium is on the EU’s list of critical materials, along with graphite for example. The EU prefers to import half of the magnesium being produced and does so mainly from China. Furthermore, insiders believe that natural magnesium supplies are dwindling faster than we think. Good reasons for recycling and also good reasons for us to obtain and process magnesium skim blocks.

Magnesium about to break-through into the car industry

One reason for growing demands for magnesium is that we keep our electrical equipment for a much shorter time. We always want the latest units and discard our devices much sooner. Magnesium is needed to make the latest appliances and thus, demand has grown. This growth in demand will increase even further now that magnesium is breaking through into the automobile industry.

With magnesium, lighter and more economical cars can be produced

Although we have known for a long time that much lighter cars can be made from magnesium than is now the case with carbon and aluminium, there was and still is too much inexperience with magnesium while malleability is also a subject of conversation. However, knowledge is growing and it seems like just a fraction of time before magnesium will conquer the car industry. The lighter the car, the more economical it is. This is why we are forever looking for lighter products, especially in the innovative car world.

We remove non-metallic particles and oxidation

Recycling – our profession, in which in our case we buy and process magnesium skim blocks- also benefits the environment. When there is less waste, the scrap heap does not grow as much as it has done to date. Much more attention should be paid to recycling; when it comes to magnesium, however, many consider the process to be too complex. This is because there may be impurities in magnesium in the form of oxidation and non-metallic particles. However, we extract these by using emulsifying salts. What remains of what used to be magnesium skim blocks then becomes pure magnesium again, which can then be found again in countless applications.

Full steam ahead

These applications are used in the manufacturing process of iron and steel and ferro-alloys and can also be found in compounds of iron, steel chromium and nickel, and this is leaving out other applications for the sake of expediency. Our working method is as clear as it is specialised and for various reasons, we will continue our work with full steam ahead. Everyone can benefit from this because you also have an eye and an ear for a healthy environment, right?
